The 6 cyl. MG L2, like many over head camshaft 6 cyl. 2-seat models produced by the MG Car Co, Ltd was produced in very limited numbers.   The 4 cyl. 2-seat models such as the J2 & PA/PB did reasonaby well, so one can only assume it was the higher price of the 6 cyl.models that precluded more sales.   The  4-seat versions of the 6 cyl. models did sell better, but  were considered sluggish with a full complement of passengers and the Coupes and Salonettes did not prove popular at all.    MGs were viewed as 'sports cars' and as time passed the 2-seater MG became the mainstay of the company and many, many early tourers, and closed cars were rebuilt as 2-seat versions.  A few were undertaken by the factory , whilst many were done privately as most 2 & 4 seat models shared identical chassis', and parts were readily available.

L0580 offered here, stated life as a Continental Coupe but available records suggest that it had been converted as early as November 1935 making it one of the earliest Continental Coupe to L2 conversions. 

It's wartime activities, like so many cars, were not recorded, but firm records do exist from 1983 when the car underwent an extensive restoration by premier restorers Baynton Jones Historic Motorsport for the Swedish Ferrari agent Helge Pehrsson in Stockholm, being exported there in Sept. 1984.   I, myself, bought the car back from Sweden in the summer of 2006 and sold it to the current owner.  He had the good fortune to recruit the services of one of our best MMM engineers,  Barry Foster, who completely rebuilt the engine during 2008/9 increasing the capacity from 1100cc to 1400cc, with a fully counter-balanced Phoenix crank & rods,  lightened flywheel, high quality pistons, new camshaft, and 'Alpine'  manifolding with one & a quarter inch carbs.       Believe me:   all this, the bigger bore,  and proper assembly explains why I can take this powerful car to 70mph with very little trouble, and more if you want it.

For those that want even more performance, I must recommend the fitting of one of our side mounted Marshall superchargers. Easy to fit, as everything comes in the kit, unseen once the bonnet is closed, with no alteration to any body work, and people confused as to why you can beat them away from the lights on every occasion!!  For those that do consider this option I will roll the s/c installation into a very attractive package price. 

Moving back to the car.   The body is in excellent condition,, the upholstery has a lovely patina, the dashboard is all correct, and the car is fitted with genuine period factory options, including aeroscreens , bucket seats, stoneguards and both left & right hand Lucas type '160' mirrors.  

This is an exceptional car, built by experts, to factory L2 specification long ago, yet offered at far less than the price of a factory numbered L2.  It offers the identical driving experience, the aesthetic pleasure of the 2-seat L type and an amazing history and invoice file that details and assures you of the car you are buying.  

The car comes with MG MMM registration, is well known to the MGCC, has full weather equipment, discreet turn signals,  and its original registration from new.      Lucky the man who gets this one.

Our enviroment here is fully secure under Govt. guidelines, so don't hesitate to come and view; my wife still makes the best coffee available!
