Enquire about this carThis very, very rare 6 cyl. 'L' Magna Salonette is one of only 2 known to be in running condition, with very few of this body style ever leaving the factory, being more as a nod to other manufacturers making small saloons at that time. Some 90 years later and in beautiful original condition, I want this almost unique car to find a home with someone that will use and maintain it for many years to come. Ideal for the older generation still wanting to get out there and do a few good rallies with your partner, but without the more spartan experience of the open 2 or 4-seater.
Supplied new to Victors Motors of Belfast in July 1933, it found its first owner in J.K. Anderson just across the water in Dumfries, Scotland under its original Irish registration CZ2847. (Many letters between Anderson & factory are present). Its whereabouts were lost for many years until it resurfaced in Cheshire in 1953 when it was re-registered with a UK plate '575 AKB' that it still carries today, together with original log book, tax discs and V5c.
This powerful 6 cyl. Magna has been meticulously built and maintained by the right people during the early 2000s , but is now reluctantly offered for sale after many years single ownership, with proven reliability, having participated on numerous long distance MG tours and rallies.
The history file says it all, but needless to say it has a fully restored chassis, mechanics and superb bodywork where new and original materials were used to exact specification. The body sports the correct window furniture, sliding sun roof and built in luggage boot. Unlike many early MG 4-seat cars, this has both the room and the power to do the job.
The KD engine has been improved with 1285cc capacity over the original 1100cc, and sports a deep sump, Laystall counter-balanced billet crank, Alpine inlet manifold for improved fuel distribution, twin SU carbs., Bosch distributor for reliability and 2-brush dynamo and diode electrics.........all to give you confidence and reliability for long trips.
Furthermore, the rebuilt gearbox and steering, modern H/Spicer propshaft , improved Furneaux axle shafts, rebuilt wheels and Blockley 450 x 19" tyres complete the excellent drive train.
The interior is beautiful. The wood dashboard is graced with a full set of correct gauges by JohnMarks of Vintage Restorations, original steering wheel and a fabulous Connolly apple green leather interior with felt roof lining. Even the original interior light and switch are there.
The car is accompanied by a huge photographic file, the factory chassis file, invoices, manual and parts list providing invaluable help and information to the new owner. In addition we, and numerous others, are here to help regarding any concerns you may have before and after purchase.
It is a rare and special opportunity to own and use a piece of such charming early motoring history which will provide immense family and social pleasure. Do ring for an appointment to view.
