Enquire about this carYes, the prototype MG PB that was born from a works rebuild of the earlier MG PA ....... with the new larger 939cc engine, close ratio gearbox, redesigned dashboard and many small features only present on this PB and those to follow.
As the first MG PB, registered by the works at Abingdon, this was used as the 1935 Autotest road car, the 1935 London Motor Show car and the factory demonstator. In addition is was loaned to and tested by "The Autocar", "The Light Car" culminating in 1936 as the Works entered Exeter Trial car. Of course it features in Mike Allison's books 'Magic of MG' and 'Magic of the Marque', along with a host of others.
The wonderful thing about this car is that it still retains its all-matching Nos. pedigree to this day, and it drives with that factory magic feel that few cars possess. In fact it drives remarkably well, far faster than many I have driven (and that's a few) but the paint is old now, and some may wish to renew it, though I wouldn't do this until it really needs it. The car presents with a lovely patina, having been sympathetically restored some years back to preserve all the original features including the original 120mph centre speedo(!), all other de-luxe instrumentation designed for the PB; the octagonal side lamps, the ultra thin SF24 trafficators, the original st. wheel, h'lamp stoneguards and aero screens. The small brass engraved plate on the dash lists this cars history..
The more powerful 939cc, 60mm bore engine is fitted with the double breather block, and a factory water pump; together with the new verical slatted radiator grill introduced for this model; while a useful, but removable, Kenlowe radiator fan has been added subsequently, though these big radiators on MGs don't really call for one. Also fitted is a headlamp mounted badge bar with appropriate badges, while a full set of rebuilt wheels and new Blockley tyres completes the road rediness.
Finally, full weather equipment of roof, sidescreens and tonneau complete the picture. It is another rare oppotunity at such a fair price to purchase a little of Abingdon's factory magic........but no museums please.
Huge history file, invoices, original factory chassis file and DVLA paperwork accompany this sale.
Please ring for a viewing and test drive, you will not be disappointed.
