Enquire about this carIt is not often standard TBs come to the market and the model is only one of 4 MGs that are eligible for entry into the Mille Miglia Retrospect . In fact only the K type has received more entries, followed by the TB, then the MG PB and then the MG L2. For those not so minded, you have here a fine reliable touring car on a par with the post war TC, but having the pre-war provenence, allowing entry to many, many events for just pre-war cars.
The TB is the first example of MG's first use of the newly designed and vastly improved XPAG engine over the forerunner used in the MG TA, that was a strictly a tuned Morris 10 engine. The XPAG design was very significant in MG history, proving its worth from the TB of 1939 right through to the TF of 1955. Unfortunately this particular TB lost its original engine many, many years ago, but is still fitted with a genuine factory replacement XPAG unit, original geatbox, and all other features with which it left the factory. Incredibly, it still carries its original and almost undamaged factory seats in dark red hide, a totally complete and original dash, original bodywork from new, recently restored genuine LUVAX shock absorbers, plus many genuine, original period accessories, not the least of which is the FT 27 Lucas foglamp, Altette horn and MG's "Midge" mascot (not shown in photos but in safe keeping!) to go with the car.
The first ownership points to its sale from the famous Colmore MG depot in Leicester to an RAF officer in early 1940, and to the engine replacement as early as 1950 and which it still sports today.
The presence and evidence with the car points to low usage throughout its life having spent many years in storage before I originally discoved it in 1996, passing it to the last owner who has maintained it impeccably over his 20years ownership including a full engine overhaul just 1000 miles ago!
So all in all we have an amazingly original TB, a virtually new engine, perfectly sound bodywork, and incredibly original interior , full weather equipment and as far as the records show, just 4 owners from new. There are not many left like this today, and with the amazing history file housing some fascinating historic letters, then it's recognition as the example used by Anders Clausager in his book 'The Original T Series' , not to mention the retention of its original Leicester registration, one of you is going to purchase a very special MG TB.
TBs are still holding their value in this changing market. They have the attributes and power of the TC, and the prewar provenence and stature of the TA, there is little or no surprise that this is a sought-after model.
The car is fully serviced, ready for the road, and ready to view at any time by appointment. A little bit of MG magic.
